Jonathan Zittrain and Jeffrey Sachs

Jonathan Zittrain and Jeffrey Sachs
Usually I am very involved in my current projects, work or hobby related and I don't even have a TV home so I am kind of cut from the rest of the world. This lasts until I finish a major project and that just happened yesterday. As a relief buffer, I proceed then to sweep through the internet in search for interesting things that I missed and scoop that knowledge.

Dogfooding WordPress plugins

Dogfooding WordPress plugins
Dogfooding or 'eating one's own dog food' is a term used for a company that is confident in it's own product (if it was a dog food they would feed their own dog with it). I thought it is a rather good term and describes why I started writing WordPress plugins. I needed a certain functionality and it was not going to be available until I personally made it - and that is how most of my plugins came to life.

Adding boxes to WordPress 2.5+ Write Post panel

I have noticed few inconsistencies in the WordPress 2.6.1 code regarding the methods to add content boxes to the WordPress Write Post panel. The old way included usingadd_action('dbx_post_advanced', 'myplugin_old_custom_box' ); add_action('dbx_post_sidebar', 'myplugin_old_custom_box' );which would add a box to the Advanced section and Sidebar. However since version 2.5 dbx_post_sidebar actually adds a box to the end of Advanced section not the sidebar.

Wandering around.. Rome

Wandering around.. Rome
This summer I was lucky enough I got persuaded to go to Italy. Persuaded as it was not my idea, I was rather comfortable enjoying my working-stay in Bol, Brac, Croatia, with a laptop on my knees, glass of wine in my hand and a beautiful view from my terrace to the sea. But I left on a journey to Italy, with only a small pack of things I could afford to carry around (I like to be very lightly burdened when I travel as I enjoy the freedom of movement that gives you).

When money becomes pointless

When money becomes pointless
I've recently read a short story about one of the founders of New York stock exchange. I am paraphrasing it but it goes something in these lines: The old gentleman, in the years when twentieth anniversary of his retirement was to be celebrated, was asked to give an advice for the people that looked up to him. Of course he was incredibly rich. He also became a big critic of a stock market and the western way of dealing with money as he grew older, although he helped it establish.
