Aftermath of my WordPress Plugin Development book

Aftermath of my WordPress Plugin Development book
Half a year after my WordPress plugin development book was published I am pleased to see that the book found it's audience and it's selling at a satisfactory pace. The plugin ideas for the book came mostly from David Barnes, who was also my editor at the beginning and provided valuable tips (hint: he is also the guy to contact if you have a book idea). The plugins were fun and useful, and today you may have heard about WP-Wall, Snazzy Archives and Insights WordPress plugins.

When you are warmed up, you are ready for 5-6 hours of high quality recorded video material from Startup School 2008 featuring speakers like founder of Amazon, Friendfeed, Ning, YCombinator... Pay really good attention, these people have been through it all.

Do you give a coin to every beggar you meet?

Do you give a coin to every beggar you meet?
I have a friend who does. I think he does it also when I am not around to see. But I am not like that. I usually pick only those most obvious in need. My thoughts and emotions are often mixed. Sometimes I see beggars who were recruited to be beggars and have their managers taking share of their profits. That gets me really mad. It makes it difficult to recognize 'genuine' beggars. Sometimes you just don't have enough coins. Is it a just justification? Should you always have enough coins?

Why you need to upgrade to WordPress 2.8.4 immediately (if you haven’t already done so)

WordPress versions between 2.8.0 and 2.8.3 have a major security issue which allows anyone (not just hackers, but literally anyone) to change the admin password on your blog in a matter of minutes. Full info can be found here. Version 2.8.4 was created to remedy that and I hope most of you already upgraded. Many people will not click the upgrade link right away and even more will not bother to read the explanation on the development blog about the latest patch.

WordPress Comment Blacklist

This is the list I use in my Discussion/Blacklist settings to help other spam tools a bit. You can download WordPress Comment Blacklist and use it on your own blog (check the keywords it's pretty strict).
