Fantastic new plugin: Front End Editor

I always wanted to create a plugin that allows me to edit the posts from front-end, through some kind of Ajax interface but never had the time to write it.

However, I have just found a plugin that does exactly that and it's lightweight, fast and does the advertised.

It is called Front End Editor. To use it, just double click the post or title area and inline text editor will appear where you can edit the post directly without going into the admin panel. Great for fixing those typos.

Here is my wish list to make it really perfect, hopefully it will improve with time.

  • add/edit custom post fields
  • add/edit categories tags
  • add/edit post time
  • inline edit comments

    I forgot to ask in my previous post, ss it possible to make the front end editing available only to certain users? If so but requires custom work please tell me the best way to receive a quote.

    Great plugin. It isworking fine in Firefox but in IE I get the follwoing error on page load-
    Message: Expected identifier, string or number
    Line: 1
    Char: 11165
    Code: 0
    URI: http://peterpanbusmarketing.com/wp-content/plugins/front-end-editor/editor/editor.js?ver=1.7.1

    Any help on this is welcome. Version 1.7.1
    As always we made a donation as we do with any plugin we use.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Vladimir,

    I'm looking for a way to activate my WordPress ADMIN editor when posting comments. I want to easily add images & make links to older articles within my site as I post comments. I noticed certain MCE editors behave this way, but I rather use the same editor configuration as I do when I post articles from the dashboard editor.....I just can't figure out which theme files to modify.

    Thanks
    Keith

    The span tag is only added for logged-in users who can edit posts, so it's not seen by the spiders.

    And even if it were, it's just a span tag. ;)

    I´m wondering about the percentage of SEO loss, since the plugin adds a span tag within the tags. Any thoughts?

    @Vladimir:

    * add/edit categories tags

    This is in the works and will be available in version 0.6

    * add/edit custom post fields

    I don't know about that one (there isn't any filter for my plugin to work with.)

    * add/edit post time
    * inline edit comments

    I haven't looked into those yet.

    You go to bed at only 1.30 am? Come on.. :)

    scribu (the plugin author btw): Glad you came by to say hello, you think you can work on the 'small' features I listed? :)

    Hey Vladimir,

    Why do you send me these cool toys at 1:30 in the morning? I was just on my way to bed when I got your email come in and because your stuff rocks I had to open it of course!

    Well luckily getting this plugin to work is a 5 minute job (less actually) so I can now sleep easy.

    Very good,

    Thanks

    Hello Vladimir,

    Thanks for the kind words.

    @Bram: the issue with the small textarea is hopefully fixed now.

    I think the dude above me missed the point where you say you didn't create it yet...

    I've just installed it and it works great! Too bad it doesn't give you the tinyMCE editor when editing a post. Also the created textarea is way to small, you can resize it (at least in Chrome) but 2 lines is really small for a full post..

    If you'd decide to make one instead of waiting for the updates on this one, I'm on the waiting list ;)

    You deserve to be in my RSS reader man! :) I was looking for something like this. I hope you can revise it more better than now.

Have your say
