I have been looking at WordPress for a couple weeks. But, have been stopped cold in my tracks by all of the comments, warnings, requirements, update problems, plugin problems, host-server requirements, etc. Why doesn't the industry keep the language and instructions simple? 99% of the host servers are set up for WP.
At wordpress.org, it gets very technical and difficult to follow very quickly. I probably should just try loading and moving forward but I keep reading all of the steps and getting lost. I can't believe it is that difficult.
When, I see it mentioned to download onto your computer a theme. Are they talking about the computer at my home or my server (at one of the major server farms). Am I going to do my work on my home computer that is connected to my server by ftp program?
I know how to use frontpage, xsitepro, etc. But, I'm confused by all of the comments at WP and the theme forums.
It is like giving people directions to your house but adding a lot of trival comments. Turn left at stop sign. But, if you see a blue mailbox on the right your lost. (Return home and start again.) After turning look for 4 white mailboxes on the left and then 3 green ones on the right. If you see a black mailbox, back up. If the road comes to a deadend, STOP. :)
I realize this is a newbie problem. But, why doesn't the industry try to make everything "plug and play"?
Is there a "simple" instruction site to walk a newbie thru the WP process and theme loading?
I dont think the industry is having everything complicated. But you should pay attention at what the big guys do until yo are ready for it. Installing wordpress is still a 5 minute process. Disregard everything else and just do things.
