Seo Smart Links plugin is amazing and powerfull but I have some perplexity about the use of it.
I am perplexed about the targets SEO Smart links should consider and in particular about tag.
Post titles and categories are usually stable and limitated. On the other hand, tags are very numerous and semantically extended.
The plugin considers existing and previous tags in new and following posts.
1) If you add new tags in old and new articles, keywords (potential links) in old articles aren't sensitive. You have effects only in new and following posts.
What happen if you (or if you need to) disable and enable the plugin?
It may happen in future.
Could we run the risk to have a sudden change of thousand internal links?
2) When you have a small or starting blog, tags are focused on central topics you should link to.
In a big blog you could have so much tags to lose the control about what you would link to.
Statistically the plugin should link main topics. On the other hand, in an article you could find links to tags you don't like.
SEO Smart links allows to enable or desable links to tags so you can choose if use it or not. This is not the question.
I would like to know what do you think about my perplexity. The use of links to tags could be a potential problem in future?
Let's say i have a page that is static and is used as the homepage.. how do i make this plugin autolink to the homepage and keep it "DOFOLLOW" while linking to external links as nofollow?
Thanks for the great plugin btw.. this is realli cool..
i've modified your great plugin, so that tags are linked, but not to the tag page, but to the tagged post. this is absolutely great for internal linking.
only bug is that a post is linked to itself too. think there would be a solution for disable this.
perhaps this type of linking could be an option in seo smart linking, because it's SMART
this is my "can't sleep at night" question. you need a preferably stable internal linking structure for great seo effects. so "as luck would have it" is not the solution.
my quick shot was the posting date old to new, so first link to the oldest post with this keyword. but this isn't the best, because then older postings become automatic more important as younger ones :o(
cool way would be a kind of manual sorting feature. so that you can say this posting ist most important for this keyword. in the table wp_term_relationships there is the field term_order filled with "0". think this could be the orderfeature basis which could be used. or has it another purpose for that?
best regards and looking forward to version 2.0 with this amazing feature ;o) karsten
you could think so. but google and co. don't like it if links changing too much. this isn't the nature of linking on the web. most of the time humans set links and forget them. too much randomize is a clear sign of software, not human work.
so the only cool randomize solution is with pre defined random tables…but this is a complex thing. with the goal, that in post A the links to other posts are random but steady over time.

I would generally advise against linking to tags and categories as the value of these pages are lower then the value of your main posts.

What if there are two or more posts with the same tag, which one do you link to?

I think in this case you are best off with "as luck would have it" solution as it will ensure even spread of PR.
