You aren't the only one wishing for a Moon race. But it's more than that. I'm wishing for some grand idea that will captivate everyone enough that we can all quit bickering and progress. How is it that we could have walked on the moon in my lifetime and now, nothing. Such a lack of vision. It's like the moon walk is the Pyramid of the 20th century.

I grew up in a rural town in Florida, between the cape and Orlando. When there was a launch, my Dad and I would stand out in the front yard with a cup of coffee and watch it go up. If it was an early morning or a night launch, we'd wait a while until the rocket was way up in the sky then my Pop would say "Listen," and we'd close out eyes and the roar from the engines would whisper past us. You could hear it. It was awesome.

I do remember staying up past 2am watching the Apollo 11 moonwalk on a hot summer night in July of 1969, I was 8-year-old boy old and I felt the magic.

Thanks for the quote. Neil Armstrong is definitely one of my heroes. Imagine buckling into the most powerful object ever created and riding out to space, and then trusting the LEM's a single solid booster rocket to fire you off the surface of the moon--talk about guts!

I agree, given a challenge, humankind can definitely do amazing things.
