Interested in Ireland

irishpubcoaster.thumbnail Interested in IrelandAfter my plans for travel to Cayman islands failed, I am turning my attention to another travel plan - Ireland.

I am big fan of Irish music and culture and a member of "Celtic Crew" Belgrade, basically a society for promoting Irish and Celtic tradition in Serbia. This goes more then 10 years back and I've been looking for an opportunity to visit Ireland ever since. It could be happening this May, a friend of mine and I have started planning the trip.

If you want to know how can anyone enjoy bunch of old lads playing some Irish tunes, well it can be that you either get born with it or you don't. Grab a pint and the answers might be on the way sooner then you expect.

Irish Pub - Need I say more

I want to see much more of Ireland than pubs of course, and I am hoping for some suggestions on what not to miss. Country side, villages, castles, unusual settlements, nature and weather is all what I want to see. We'll be renting a car so nothing is too far.

This should be happening in May of course, I will try to make a travel report and you suggest where should I go.

Btw. recently I discovered a site for those who like to travel. It is called TravBuddy.com and it is a sort of a Facebook for travelers. Very interestingly made, you can find people who travel to same destination like you and join up or seek advice from those who already traveled there.

    Hi Karen,

Ta' me' buioch diot as do chunamh.

That is exactly what we needed. Mixed with couple of stops we had in mind it looks that 10 days will not be enough to do it all. Maybe 14, heh?

I have noticed you have a very interesting site about Ireland. With description of your travels and photos. It will be a an irreplaceable guide for our journey.

    Rath Dé ort!

    Vladimir

We just came back from our 4th trip to beautiful Ireland and are so jealous of your upcoming trip! Depending on how much time you have and where you start and end up (in and out of Dublin or Shannon), here are a few spots you really should consider:

    East Coast:
    1. Glendalough, Co. Wicklow
    2. The Meeting of the Waters/Avoca, Co. Wicklow (where Ballykissangel was filmed). It's beautiful country.
    3. Wicklow Mountains. Gorgeous

    Midlands:
    1. Clonmacnoise
    2. Rock of Cashel & Hore Abbey
    3. Athlone and particularly, Sean's Bar

    West Coast:
    1. West Cork--particularly Mizen or Bere Peninsulas. Absolutely breath-taking landscape. God does fantastic work!
    2. Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry (a stop in the Railway Tavern in Camp is a MUST. You will have the best time there--guaranteed!) There are Sunday night sessions every week and a fabulous time to be had.
    3. The Burren, Co. Clare--particularly locating yourself in Kilfenora. If you do get to Kilfenora, a must is Linnane's Pub in the village. There is fantastic music sessions there on Wednesday and Sunday in from about May through October, with the Kilfenora Ceili Band heading the Wed. nite sessions. Tell Gerard Scott and Karen sent you!

We hope you have a GREAT time! Be prepared--you will fall in love with Ireland--it can't be helped.

    Slan agus beannacht,
    Karen
