Actually, I've tried many, but have been playing with Microsoft (did I say a bad word here?!?) Live Writer to manage multiple WP blogs. I was actually surprised, but works decent. There are limitations (i.e. custom fields, etc), but for the noob (90% of my clients), it is super perfecto!

I would strongly say Yes. The reason behind this Yes is the comparison of forum building software. Although there are very good and easy to use free and open source softwares available but when it comes to building a huge forum, everybody likes to go for vbulletin. The blogging software should follow likewise.

Sounds like it could be a WP-Hive beater. Will it also allow you to centrally update numerous WP blogs? If so then it will definitely be a winner.

We often design sites for clients using WordPress as it is pretty simple to get something nice up and running in a short period of time. Im not sure that there would be huge demand for a commercial blogging platform, although I think that one of WordPress' biggest problems is the constant need for updating.

WordPress is not hard for the average computer people, in my case i teach how to use wordpress in 30 minutes to my Editors who write for my commercial blogs. However, one thing is clear, wordpress has become to be a very slow product with many extra-uneccesary options.

If you build an app like wordpress, make it compatible with all it's plugins, it's also fast and you offer this along with support, you can make some money for sure.

Take the example of RedHat, they built RHEL and many other pieces of software, this is paid software, but their main income trough all the years has been the support for that software. In this area, even your software is not an OS, it should work too.

I think WordPress is far superior and better than Blogger or even TypeAd but yes each of these softwares have their own pros and cons.

@R'phael Spindel : I'd pay for fast and simple software. AMHA WordPress is easy but too slow online. One thing I'd like would be the possibility to crop/resize/watermark images from the computer before upload.
I think that would be enough for me to pay (if I can test before!)

Simpler than WordPress? If that's another facet of the answer, then I say YES. If I were to write a book, it would be called "WordPress is HARD." Because if it was easy, it wouldn't need a book, right?

Well the value of commercial is not in support only. I would say simplicity of use would have to rank very high on the list for a commercial product.

I'm not sure I answer your question, but I'd pay for a GOOD desktop software to publish on multiple WordPress sites.
