Kosovo declares one-sided independence

Just a few minutes ago around 16:00 on Sunday 17-th February the International Law was once again humiliated with planned and supported declaration of independence of Kosovo. The independence did not humiliate Serbia but US, it's president and administration and Europe who obligedly stud up and supported this unnatural creation and unprecedented experiment on the soil of sovereign Serbia.

Serbia will never recognize the fake country on it's territory. Serbs and free people of the world will wait, years and decades if needed, until the independence is ruled over and international law and practice exercised equally for all countries and members of United Nations.

    Hi Ro,

I do not have anything against the right of people to be independent.

But either same rules apply for all or what is known as international law has to be respected. Do you agree with me on that?

    1. When "group of people" in Texas about ten years ago tried to have independent state of Texas, they were attacked by US military and if not all killed certainly imprisoned for a long time

    2. When a "group of people" in Palestine wants to have a country, they are deprived of this right while on the same ground another group of people is granted that right. The Israel.

    3. Let's not forget that in Kosovo today, a formidable number of Serbs still living there want to live in a country called Serbia not Kosovo, what do we do about them? Tell me Ro, why they do not have the right to live in a country they were born, their ancestors were born and their children were born? By all means, they have much greater right to that.

What is wrong is when the free will of people is supported only when it is in compliance with a national interest of a certain country.

And do not mix terms here. Kosovo was always free, but never independent. Like Baskia in Spain, and Quebec in Canada.

      Vladimir,

I recently came across your web site, and am now a regular reader. Thank you for sharing your brain with us. You have awesome stuff here and I learn things from you a lot.

As an Albanian (from Kosovo), I don't agree with this post (note, I normally agree with you all the time ;). I do see your points, but there are a lot of things that you leave out that lead to the independence of Kosovo. The first being the disintegration of Yugoslavia. A formidable number of Serbs live in Kosovo, rightly so, as this is their country as much as it is the Albanians' country. There are also many Serbs living in Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro etc (probably in greater numbers than in Kosovo). They all are independent states now. Secondly, and biggest problem is that you say "Kosovo was always free, but never independent". That is my biggest disagreement with you Vladimir. Based on your bio, you have never lived in Kosovo (though you may have served your JNA time there, I don't know), and maybe never even visited it. I, on the other hand, was born and raised there. Let me tell you, Kosovo was never free (at least for the 18 years that I lived there), until Serb forces were forced out by NATO. It may have been free for the Serbs, but not for Albanians. I was forbidden to go to school in my language, and my parents were expelled from their jobs, just for being Albanian. Then, I won't go into it, but the war came out. A lot of bad things happened there, and sadly I had the bad luck to witness some horrific things. Well, once all was said and done, I ended up with no family in a refugee camp in Macedonia. So, too many things happened which caused the Albanians to never feel safe under Serbian rule ever again. I have no problem with the Serbs, in fact I think they are fantastic people, and as I'm sure you already know, the minorities have much more rights in Kosovo than anywhere else in Europe. Yes, there are incidents here and there, but that same thing happens in a lot of other countries. Despite, the Serbs in the enclaves in Kosovo are by orders of magnitude safer than Albanians north of Mitrovica.

      Prijatno

Vladimir, I just don't get it... How can a group of people declaring sovereignty ever be a bad thing?

    How is it wrong?

The wikipedia article just states the facts, as it should. The Noam Chomsky article is about the legality of the US intervention in Kosovo. The alternet article exposes the Bush administration for being extremely selective and hypocritical in it foreign policy (agreed).

Let's say that the US intervention was wrong, and the current (and previous) administrations are hypocritical and insincere with regards to foreign policy.

    Fine.

That still doesn't explain why Kosovo shouldn't be free?

    Your thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Ro

I'm very upset by this situation. And moreover : yesterday I created an event on Facebook, taking place in Belgrade. It is impossible on Facebook to find Belgrade in Serbia. You can find it in the United States, in Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, even Belgium.. but your Belgrade, for them is in Croatia.
I had to apologize to the guy who asked my to create this event and write an explanation for everybody. And I wrote too Mark Zukerberg to complain.
You can find our event here
