Giant robots, sometimes driven by human pilots - Mechs - are popularized through PC game series like Mech Warrior. I was a really big fan of these kind of games.
If there was ever a war on the moon for it's resources it will probably happen Mech Warrior style.
They made a first one in Japan. It's armed with two airsoft guns. It's still very clumsy and pretty much useless, but it's a start.
And you know what?
There are few things I would enjoy working on more, than designing AI (Artificial Intelligence) for Mechs.
Not only it is a greatest IT challange, but would make the inevitable wars more humane - let the machines fight instead of us.

Check out "Robot Jox", an old Full Moon Movie. I've dreamed of piloting a mech all my life.
Wow.. amazing robot man.
I loved that land walker. :P
dude. haha. mechs. great things. i use to be such a sucker for those old school mech games.
You're right -- even if robots fight, the way only way for war to work is if someone gets killed, otherwise it's simply too easy to ignore the results of a battle. It would be like playing poker without using real money -- it deprives the game of meaning and basically means it's practice or doesn't really count.
It would be nice, at least, if we could figure out a way to have a war without harming civilians or, better yet, not having them at all.
Those models look pretty cool. I was a big Mech warrior fan as well. If they ever had a model of a 'Battlemaster' then I'd try to pick one up for sure.
Humane in a sense that only robots get destroyed (if run by AI).
These remind me of real life "transformers". They would be fun to try and operate. I can't imagine how war would be more humane in them however.
