My pilot dream became a reality

It is my great satisfaction that after four years since I first laid my hands on the commands of a flying machine, I passed all necessary examinations and officially became a soaring pilot.

It took longer than it should, primarily because of my work and restless spirit, but I was determined to make this childhood dream a reality and one day soar the skies on my own.

Pictured is the glider I took the final test on and also my first solo flight, Blanik L-13, The Phantom of the Sky, joined by my class of pilots and our instructors.

I have accumulated around 45 hours of flying, and I am looking forward to getting that number over 100 soon.

There is little in life that can compare to achieving your dreams. After all that is the whole point of living. Luckily I have couple of more, so it will stay exciting ;)

Congratulations, Vladimir, on your pilot licence.

Soaring has been my first dream of flying and I was lucky to get my training and licence just at the beginning of my student years in Giessen (Germany).
Soaring is the closest you can get to feel like a bird yourself and I shall never forget one flight in the Ka-8 (often the first single seat plane flown in those days) where I was in the same thermal with a milan. We both looked at each other in amazement, but the bird climbed away much faster than I ever could and vanished in the sky above.....

Later came the PPL for single engine planes and an IFR rating to use the plane for travelling, but that propeller takes away most of the the joy of flying. Stick to soaring as long as you can and try some nice areas in neighboring Slovenija ;-)

    Many happy landings!

Congratulations on your soaring! I've just listened to the Wordcast podcast in which you were interviewed and rushed "over here" to find out more about you --- what fun!

Thank you for making the contributions to the Wordpress world. I'm glad that you are gaining a few rewards for yourself along the way.

Congrats!! It must have been a rush. When my son was 18 and the day after he graduated from High School he took me up for a plane ride. Just a year and a half earlier I was teaching him to drive a stick shift for a car. Amazing...

Congrats Vladimir! That is quiet an accomplishment! I have to admit, I would not get in such a small plane if you paid me. I'm afraid of heights. :)
