Thanks Tarrith DoUrden, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one completely dazed by the contradictions here...

All the irony showed here between the title claiming the infinite beauty of nature (which is by the way the base of my train of thought) and the pictures showing the endless crazy expansion of the greatest parasite the earth has ever known.

All I see in those night view pictures is the hypocrisy of an elite, a 20% of world wide population, living blindly in a unsustainable, hyper-egocentric lifestyle, sucking 80% of all earth resources, slobbering from every pore tons of waste that make all of us more and more closer to a point of no return. I see the triumph of the neoliberalism, a mentality that wants to recreate life at his image, to appropriate every living being, reorganize every parcels on earth by the self-proclaimed master of the earth, us and our so called knowledge.

I can't wait to see the day when this wealthy and supposedly most advanced civilization of ours will be outsmarted by nature, when we will realize that we are not the promoters of earth. We are a result of nature, our fragile organism (like others) totally rely on it. By obstructing more and more the complex mechanisms that took millions of years to build, we are the greatest predator of our own kind and most of other species. Us modern people are blinded by our technology, our cities, our heated houses. The illusion of a world made by humans for humans. First nations all around the world understood thousands of years ago that respecting their environment is the only way to survive.
I don't care if I'm a endangered specie. I don't care if I die. I'll have the satisfaction that I did all I could not to be part of this.

So what if they are photoshopped, the photos are great, makes me realise how wonderful this planet is. It's the only one we know of like it,so lets just enjoy it and look after it.

As I look at many sites with pictures, I notice that everyone's worried about it being photoshopped or not. Why can't everyone just acknowledge the pictures for what they are worth and enjoy them? Is that just too much to ask?

Tarrith DoUrden, you do realize in writing you have used electricity and have become one of the things you hate. So stop it! Go practice what you rant about. Live off the land and nothing else. No cars, electricity, coal, and hot showers or baths...nothing. Can you do it? Doubt it.

It's sodding ghastly. Take a closer look.

The land has been pixalised by the human race, carving the land up into small patches of various brown and grey.
The most fertile parts of the planet have have cities where humans multiply, turning fertile green to infertile grey concrete.

Even at night humans make little glowing spots on the surface. This is NOT pretty. These are NOT Christmas lights. This is is the human race using an exorbitant amount of energy to see in the dark.

I'm glad you like dust storms, once all the green has gone, there will be a lot more to appreciate.

Take a closer look. What you see should make you all ill and somewhat afraid.

    This is google earth call.
Look what you are doing to your planet.
    Stop it.

This is indeed a great set of pictures of our planet. Great creativity though.
How can so many continents be in the dark simultaneously? Look closely at the 1st night-shot pic, its seems to be nighttime in North America, Europe and Asia. hmmmmmm?
