Retrospective of 2010 – third year online

Recently I celebrated my 34th birthday (or 408 months) and incidentally that was also the third birthday for this blog. Which means it is the time to make the retrospective of the site, business and my life for the past  year.

The Business

I'd like to start with my new company Prelovac Media, which I founded in April this year and consider the most important news in my business life. We have currently six employees and a young, talented team, hungry for work. So if you'd like us to build your website don't be shy to contact us.

Prelovac Media Team 2010

One of the first in-house projects that we finished, was a website for the local real estate market called Novogradnja, building and launching of I described in detail here. If you are a reader from Serbia than please link to this site from your blog and let me know about that.

We also successfully built and launched Torte Kolaci, another local site which already became the number one site in the niche with nearly 2 million pageviews monthly and growing.

Moving on internationally, for all WordPress users we launched ManageWP.com, highly flexible platform for managing multiple WordPress blogs which is currently in beta but already manages over 2,000 blogs world-wide. We are currently working on releasing the self-hosted version  (by December most probably, stay tuned).

Next, being addicted to new Web technologies, I launched Webification.com with primary focus on publishing daily news about most attractive new Web technologies. We are currently working on increasing the number of RSS subscribers through regular featured articles. If Web 2.0 trends and technologies is something that interests you, please spread the word, subscribe to the RSS feed and let me know how you like the site.

Recently I became a majority owner in a popular technology portal Geek With Laptop, site I was already involved with for quite some time and really feel passionate about. I personally have three laptops so the site suits me quite well :) Here is the Lenovo x301 review I wrote for the site a while back, and it's the laptop I am still using today.

This year I also created two quite handy Firefox browser addons, already very popular SEO Doctor (easy SEO diagnosis for websites, over 60,000 users currently) and BuddyFox, which is a proof of concept for in-browser chat that I like quite a lot and has a community of about 2,000 users now.

The Blog

This blog is where it all started three years ago. And in June this year it broke into top 10,000 websites in the world.

The blog is listed in:

Here are some posts from this year that I'd like to highlight.

  1. How to do Clever Keyword Research
  2. 9 things that Bill Gates can't do better than you
  3. How long have I been here (fun!)
  4. E-commerce Provider Fees Comparison

My plan is to continue blogging and providing free resources in the future while also developing the business side of the site.

The Life

In January I visited Egypt (Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Dahab) and Jordan (Petra). It was a backpacker experience full of adventure and memories.

In the Spring I took an invitation to see the Wine fair in Barcelona, Spain and visited the city that I always thought I would end up living in. But I changed my mind, there are just too many tourists. Perhaps Madrid? Click for the photo album of Barcelona visit.

Around this time I also visited a small workshop high in the Austrian Alps that was still building WWI airplanes.

Checking out building of WWI Albatros

In June I went to southern Serbian province of Kosovo participating in a humanitarian aid action. We bought seven cows for seven families. Click for the photo album of Kosovo visit.

In August 2010  I went onto the trans-siberian railway journey. From St. Petersburg in the north, through whole of Russia, Mongolia and then China it took  23 days for this long awaited adventure. Highlight of the trip has to be swimming in the freezing cold waters of Lake Baikal and riding a galloping horse in the Mongolian steppe. Click for the photo album of Trans mongolian travel.

Ending the summer I got my private pilot license. So I took the opportunity to fly to island of Brac, take a swim in the sea and be back in Belgrade by dinner time. Click for the photo album of this flight.

I am still learning to play guitar albeit it goes a bit slow and my recent passion for chess is not helping at all.

Future

Simple, further develop Prelovac Media business, this site and see new places!
