Tip for improving bounce rate: Ad-free homepage
Here is a tip for improving the bounce rate on all kind of sites, but I think one that online newspapers can use the most. If you would like to improve bounce rate, have higher number of page-views, improved visitor engagement and thus increased advertising revenue the single most effective thing you can do is actually very easy to achieve. Remove advertisements from your home page. Think about it. Does a visitor coming to your home page want to see ads or what your site has to offer?

Your website is your second home

Your website is your second home
Thought I would do a short rant (haven't done so in a while) about how attached webmasters (me, and probably you) become with their websites. We spend time with our website just like in our homes. We take care of it, need to clean it or otherwise it will start to fall apart. If it is a particularly nice website (home) we will be eager to show it to our friends. If it is something we are not proud of, we'd try to hide it from everyone.
