Zeitgeist: Addenum and Zeitgeist Movement

Venus project raises the question about sustainability and offers a different view on the future.

Heard this the other day: doctors in ancient China very actually paid by the number of healthy patients they had, not the sick ones as it is today. Most important pillars of society are all upside down today. Military is paid for wars, not for sustaining peace. What if tomorrow fireman are paid by the number of fires they extinguish. What do you think will the number of fires go up or down?

That bit about the firemen, Vladimir; it reminded me of Crassus, one of the richest men who ever lived. He's credited with the first fire brigade which involved his men running around setting light to properties he fancied. If the people agreed to sell for only 10% of the market value the fire was put out - else it burned! He was a particularly nasty bloke, even for the times. He was the one that crucified all the slaves and had the whole Appian Way lined up with thousands of crosses. He met his end in battle and had liquid gold symbolically poured down his throat!

However, the tale has a cause and effect sort of moral to it that is directly relevant to your point, in that bad things come around and get you in the end - same as messing around with climate etc. I like the look of the Venus thing, but as always with altruistic projects like this, they are battling with deep-set vested interests which will need extremely adequate funding to conquer.

I wish them well, and thanks for bringing this to my attention!
