On spending money and the Luxury rule

On spending money and the Luxury rule
It might appear as easy (“If I have money I'd know how to spend it!”) but in reality spending money is all but. In fact it is also a skill that needs to be learned, if one was not lucky enough to live in a surrounding where money spending skills were taught. I have learned the first step the tough way and I'd like to pass my experience on. Greatest challenge with spending money is understanding what money really is. It is not the ticket to your dreams, but a tool for changing the world.

How do they get away with this?

How do they get away with this?
I think this would be a perfect title for a new series on Discovery. I have to say that some things do not stop to amaze me, especially when big companies are concerned. I recently had an email from Google that was triggered by some automated algorithm (wrongly), sent from a no-reply address, expecting me to perform an action for which there is no explanation what to do if the assumption was wrong like it was. Trying to find a human or email contact on Google's site leaves you stranded.

Facebook comments vs Blog comments

Facebook comments vs Blog comments
Recently I've been toying around with Facebook comments technology and it's implementation on blogs. I've already use it on several our sites with success and today I included Facebook comments on my blog as a test. I am pretty convinced that it is at least worth checking out (if for nothing, it's very easy to setup on a WordPress blog with a plugin like this one).

Website Malware – The biggest threat we face on the Internet today

Website Malware – The biggest threat we face on the Internet today
Malware (malicious software) is software made with mostly ill-minded intention to infiltrate another computer system, gain control of the system without the consent of the owner and commit further hostile activities. For example large portion of the spam email circulating in the world today and ending in your inbox every day comes from computers overrun with malware. Why people create malware?

The Future of Free

I do not believe things should be free. It creates anarchy. I believe it is in the human nature not to appreciate what is free. If somebody gives us something for free, most of us take it for granted as if it never happened. And that creates the problem with free. Because free also needs to make living somehow. But it got it's business model all wrong because we are not appreciative enough. How do I know? If we were paying for the air we breathe I bet we would care more for our environment.

Forgotten Art of Programming

Forgotten Art of Programming
I remember when I was a kid, the thrill of seeing a new game or demo effect on my computer. It was a true display of programming ingeniousness, when coders struggled to bend the rules of physics and electronics and squeeze every possible bit of power from these machines. Then came the PC and with it lazy programming. Now we are witnesses to the absurd such as 1 GHz processors installed in mobile phones, but switching from one menu to another is mysteriously lasting 5 seconds.
