Gmail looks so good on the face of it, but you can't trust the vagaries of big business. They can simply close your account, for no ostensible reason. You may forget the password, so complicatedly created by your paranoid self! Retrieval of your lost account is too cumbersome unless you remember to jot down secret question+answer pair etc.Yes. Use it it to the hilt, but download and save important mails in your local machine.Gmail has a paid business mail service too, but that is different ball game altogether.S.K

There is a risk with these hosted solutions. And I used to clear the spam folder often. Now, I do not do that. Gmail dumps things after 30 days. Meanwhile it is all still there for 30 days in case you need to refer back. Again, for what a mess that email can become, Gmail has really given me much peace of mind. I recommend folks switch over. AND... lol. I doubt that Google has much reason to be 'reading' all that stuff online. Maybe it's Pollyanna thinking, but you have to trust somebody. I'd rather trust Google who has pretty much proven itself in so many regards over the years... than who? The govt? lol.Every excellent tool that Google publishes is another piece of armor for us. And in the long haul, it makes us, as consumers, more likely to buy in to any given tool they put up for actual sale. I tend to trust NOBODY.... at first. It takes a long time to win me as consumer. Google is at the top of that trust list IN SPITE of some of the slaps... for which I am sure they have had their reasonings.

Oops. I too have several accounts, which all feed into my primary address. I never delete anything anymore... BUT... I do not use the archive function very much. I do delete those things I know I will not need, which amounts to quite a bit. But I download all of that to Windows mail, and have an extensive 'Outlook' folder some years old and HUGE... about 6-7GB now. But I no longer use any 3rd party 'spam' software because Gmail is absolutely the best I've seen for filtering it all out. I get a few that sneak through but for the most part, it is amazing how much spam comes through and I never see it. I love Gmail.

For all the reasons you've listed, gmail is also my primary email client now.
